Accounts or Finance Assistant Level 2
Support the accounts and finance functions of a school or MAT, assisting with bookkeeping, financial administration and payment processing.
Programme Overview
The Level 2 Accounts or Finance Assistant apprenticeship prepares individuals to support the accounts and finance functions within an organisation. In a school context, this role involves assisting with financial administration including processing invoices and purchase orders, maintaining financial records, supporting budget monitoring, and assisting with payroll administration. Apprentices will develop a sound understanding of basic accounting principles, financial systems, and the importance of accuracy and compliance in financial record-keeping. This programme provides an excellent foundation for a career in school finance.
What Your Staff Will Learn
- Process financial transactions including invoices, purchase orders and payments accurately
- Maintain financial records and ensure accuracy and completeness of financial data
- Assist with budget monitoring and the preparation of financial reports
- Understand and apply basic accounting principles and double-entry bookkeeping
- Use accounting software and financial management systems effectively
- Comply with financial regulations, organisational procedures and relevant legislation
- Communicate clearly with suppliers, colleagues and external stakeholders regarding financial matters
- Support payroll administration and staff expense processing as required
Entry Requirements
- 1Currently working in or moving into a finance, accounts, or financial administration role
- 2English and maths at Level 1 required (Level 2 must be achieved before EPA)
- 3Be employed for a minimum of 16 hours per week in England
- 4Have the right to work in the UK
- 5Good numeracy skills, attention to detail and a methodical approach to work
Off-the-Job Training
Dedicated off-the-job training during normal working hours. Includes online learning, workshops, accounting software training, and progress reviews. Funded via the Growth and Skills Levy (maximum funding band: £6,000). Non-levy employers contribute 25%.
End Point Assessment
End Point Assessment includes a portfolio-based assessment and a professional discussion or knowledge test. Grades: Fail / Pass / Merit / Distinction. Typical training is 12–14 months followed by EPA period.
