Digital Support Technician Level 3

Programme Overview
The Level 3 Digital Support Technician apprenticeship prepares individuals to provide first-line technical support and digital assistance across an organisation. Apprentices will develop the skills to resolve technical issues, support users with software and hardware queries, maintain digital systems, and assist with the implementation of new technology. In a school context, this role supports teachers, leadership staff and pupils with the day-to-day use of digital tools, MIS systems, devices, and classroom technology. The programme develops a broad understanding of digital systems and the ability to communicate technical solutions clearly to non-technical users.
What Your Staff Will Learn
- Provide first-line technical support to users, resolving hardware, software and network issues
- Maintain and update digital systems, ensuring they function correctly and securely
- Support the implementation and roll-out of new technology across the organisation
- Communicate technical solutions clearly and accessibly to users with varying levels of digital literacy
- Follow organisational procedures for data security, access control and device management
- Identify when to escalate technical issues to senior IT staff or specialist support
- Document technical processes, solutions and user guides to support the wider team
- Assist with the management of user accounts, software licences and digital assets
Entry Requirements
- 1Currently working in or moving into an IT support or digital assistance role
- 2English and maths at Level 2 required prior to End Point Assessment
- 3Be employed for a minimum of 16 hours per week in England
- 4Have the right to work in the UK
- 5Good communication skills and a helpful, solution-focused approach
Off-the-Job Training
Dedicated off-the-job training during normal working hours. Includes online learning, live workshops, and hands-on technical support tasks applied directly in setting. Funded via the Growth and Skills Levy (maximum funding band: £10,000). Non-levy employers contribute 25%.
End Point Assessment
End Point Assessment includes a work-based project with presentation and a professional discussion underpinned by a portfolio of evidence. Grades: Fail / Pass / Merit / Distinction. Typical EPA period follows the 16-month training phase.
