Programme Overview
The Level 3 IT Solutions Technician apprenticeship develops individuals who can develop, implement, and maintain IT solutions that solve problems or improve existing functionality. The standard covers the whole solutions lifecycle including requirements gathering, solutions development, testing, implementation, and ongoing support. The role requires understanding of stakeholder and business needs, translating these into designs and solutions. Apprentices apply structured methodologies to gather and analyse requirements, liaise with stakeholders, and create logical designs evidencing how objectives can be met. They work as part of multi-disciplinary teams across the whole solutions lifecycle.

- Apply a structured methodology to gather and analyse requirements from stakeholders
- Create concept and logical designs of solutions, evidencing how objectives are met
- Assist in the management of solutions or projects and understand the needs of the organisation
- Apply structured testing methodologies and work within change management processes
- Provide ongoing maintenance and support to users to ensure solutions continue to function
- Understand network configuration, cloud, network administration and monitoring tools
- Give technical advice and guidance on IT solutions and infrastructure
Entry Requirements
- 1Currently employed in a school or organisation in an IT support or technician role
- 2English and maths at Level 2 required prior to End Point Assessment
- 3Be employed for a minimum of 16 hours per week in England
- 4Have the right to work in the UK
- 5Individual employers set selection criteria — relevant experience or qualifications beneficial
Off-the-Job Training
Dedicated off-the-job training during normal working hours. Minimum 370 hours for compliance. Includes online learning, live workshops, project-based work applied directly in setting, and progress reviews. Funded via the Growth and Skills Levy (maximum funding band: £15,000). Non-levy employers contribute 25% (£3,750).
End Point Assessment
End Point Assessment comprises two components: a Project with Report and Presentation (4 weeks to complete, max 2,000 words, 60-minute presentation with questions) and a Professional Discussion underpinned by a Portfolio of Evidence (60 minutes, at least 8 questions). Grades: Fail / Pass / Merit / Distinction. Typical EPA period is 4 months.
