L2 Early Years Practitioner
Perfect if you enjoy hands-on learning and are looking for your first job in an Early Years setting, or are looking to enhance your current role working in nursery, pre-school or reception.
Programme Overview
Undertaking the Level 2 Early Years Practitioner apprenticeship will enable you to gain the essential knowledge, skills, and behaviours to help young children thrive in an Early Years setting. You'll be part of a team helping children learn, play and grow every day. You'll be supported by experienced Early Years practitioners who will guide you as you plan creative activities, set up meaningful play experiences, and help children learn and grow through the Early Years Foundation Stage.
What Your Staff Will Learn
- An understanding of how babies and young children learn and develop
- The importance of holistic development, including cognitive, speech, language and communication, physical, emotional, and social development
- An understanding of how to support assessment and planning and provide an enabling environment for babies and young children
- Build knowledge of Safeguarding, child protection and promoting the well-being welfare of all babies and young children, including those with additional needs
- How to work co-operatively with parents/carers, colleagues, and other professionals to enhance babies' and young children's learning
- Develop confidence, communication, and teamwork skills
- Learn how to problem-solve and adapt to children's needs
Entry Requirements
- 1Must be resident in England for the last three years and have the right to work in the UK
- 2Aged 16–18: Grade C or above / 4 or 5 at GCSE in English and Maths (or working towards Level 2 Functional Skills)
- 3Aged 19+: No qualifications required (desirable to have Maths and English GCSE at Grade C/Level 4 or above)
- 4Good with people — ability to build positive relationships with staff and parents
- 5Effective communicators — clear and confident verbal and written communication skills
- 6Desire to improve the lives of others — supporting children from birth to five years
Off-the-Job Training
Self-paced online learning combined with live virtual workshops. Termly tutor visits plus ongoing support from an in-school mentor. Includes Paediatric First Aid training. You can apply while still at school but must be 16 or over by the end of the summer holidays to start.
End Point Assessment
The programme includes a 2-month End-Point Assessment period following the 13-month study phase. Progress is reviewed termly with dedicated tutor visits and ongoing support from an in-school mentor.
