SEND Specialist
Learn how to provide specialist support for children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities in order to promote inclusion and advance learning and progression.
Social & Emotional Wellbeing Specialist
Learn how to positively contribute to your pupils' social and emotional wellbeing, to support inclusion and advance learning. Includes training to become a qualified Emotional Literacy Support Assistant (ELSA).

Feel more confident in supporting all children and young people with their literacy, communication and language skills, including those with identified speech and language difficulties. Opt-in to gaining an Elklan qualification alongside your apprenticeship, or choose the Higher Level Communication Practitioner (HLCP) Award from OCN London.
Off-the-Job Training
Off-the-job training is dedicated time during normal working hours to focus on learning and applying new skills. All required learning (asynchronous learning, workshops, webinars and progress reviews) counts towards off-the-job hours. Activities also include: reading relevant articles, applying knowledge to real-world projects, networking with peers, spending time learning from colleagues and leaders, research and revision, and coaching/mentoring. Learning includes: asynchronous online learning via a bespoke platform; 18 × two-hour live online workshops; self-directed project work in your setting; one online progress review per term with your tutor and in-school mentor; networking with other TAs; and exclusive invitations to SEND Masterclasses hosted by experts. Live delivery is one morning per month, plus one additional half-day (2 hours) per week for asynchronous learning and work-based projects. Funded via the Growth and Skills Levy (funding band: £12,000, subject to reductions based on recognition of prior learning). Levy-paying employers: 100% funded. Non-levy employers: contribute 5% (£600). 100% fully funded for all under-25s.
End Point Assessment
You will have termly progress reviews to celebrate growth and discuss challenges, scheduled with your mentor and apprenticeship tutor. Throughout the apprenticeship you'll work on projects and activities, supported by your tutor, which will make up your portfolio of evidence. The final progress review is combined with a Gateway Meeting; once completed, you'll then undertake the End-Point Assessment (EPA). Apprentices are required to pass both components; combined results determine the overall grade (Fail, Pass, Merit or Distinction). EPA Component 1: Observation with questions — the assessor will observe you teaching and interacting with learners for 90 minutes plus 30 minutes of questions. EPA Component 2: Professional discussion underpinned by a portfolio of evidence (60 minutes).
