Programme Overview
The Level 4 Professional Accounting or Taxation Technician apprenticeship prepares individuals for senior finance roles requiring a high level of technical accounting or taxation expertise. In a school or MAT context, this might involve leading the finance function, preparing statutory accounts, managing complex VAT and tax compliance, or providing strategic financial advice to the headteacher, governing body, or CEO. Apprentices will develop the knowledge and skills needed to operate effectively in a senior finance role and may study towards AAT Level 4 or CIMA Certificate-level qualifications as part of the programme.

Entry Requirements
- 1Currently working in a senior finance role in a school, MAT, or similar organisation
- 2English and maths at Level 2 required prior to End Point Assessment
- 3Be employed for a minimum of 16 hours per week in England
- 4Have the right to work in the UK
- 5Prior accounting experience or Level 3 accounting qualification is typically expected
Off-the-Job Training
Dedicated off-the-job training during normal working hours. Typically includes AAT Level 4 or CIMA Certificate study embedded within the programme. Funded via the Growth and Skills Levy (maximum funding band: £7,000). Non-levy employers contribute 25%.
End Point Assessment
End Point Assessment includes a professional discussion, portfolio review, and examination or project. Grades: Fail / Pass / Merit / Distinction. Typical training is 24 months followed by EPA period.
